What do you think of Rally Sliven?
On the sporting point of view this is a very good rally. I saw all the stages and they are great. It is a really beautiful rally. As far as the rally is good, the fans will come to see it. The stages here are very technical and I really like them. It is great.
What does it take to make a good rally?
To make a beautiful rally you must have good routes – that you have. You must also have good level of organization – here you have to improve. One problem here is that too few people are speaking English. That creates lots of difficulties and obstacles. You must find solution to attract and help European or Middle East drivers to come. The place is quite good because it is in the middle of Europe and Middle East. If the organizer makes a good promotion, the drivers can come from everywhere. Go to several rallies in Europe and Middle East and ask people to come. Make a good job of that and the results will come.
How do you see the future of European rallying?
Eurosport will be the promoter of the European rally championship. The next step is to build the calendar which will happen at October. There are some plans for the rallies but at the moment nothing is concrete.
How do you feel the IRC project?
IRC now is at a very good level. We had a good fight between many teams. The top drivers of IRC did not come here because the championship is decided. They did not come to save money.
Do you plan more manufactures to come?
Next year there is no more IRC, it is going to be the European championship. There will be new FIA technical regulations and there will be many more manufacturers. There will be new Ford, Citroen, Peugeot, Subaru and new Skoda in 2014. Because of the new regulations, the manufacturers will have to build new cars under the new R5 category. The fight with the S2000 will be very close.
How do you see the championship improving from that point?
Many more new teams will come to the championship. There will be lots of cars. There will be good level of price for privateers. If the cost is not too high, we will have a lot of teams. With the new technical category, that FIA is creating – the R5, it will be cheaper to drive.
How do you see the future of Bulgarian rallies in the European competion in the next couple of years?
We have a lot of candidates for the European championship and the calendar will be done next month in coordination with the FIA. I do not know what your chances are. There are 25 candidates. 12 rallies from the IRC and 12 from the ERC and 4 candidates from the outside. It is going to be difficult for them to decide.
